The sun is out in Barrie and after a great bike ride around the lake it’s time to reflect on a couple good songs I was listening to today. Alan Jackson, although I’m not as big a fan of him as some people, has some good tracks on his latest album Freight Train. Favorite up-tempo is “Hard Hat and a Hammer,” that gets your foot tapping and stuck in your head despite it’s overloaded-syllable hook and clumsy chorus metaphors. The overall best song on the album in my opinion, however, is called “Taillights Blue,” a classic tune that Jackson’s nephew Adam Wright co-wrote. The hook is ingenious, and Keith Stegall’s production on it is traditional and engaging.
